Strength Training Week 7

Posted by webmaster On June - 18 - 2006

Today is Sunday. It is a day after Evan Almighty. When I was called to work on Evan Almighty as an extra, I had no idea that there would be huge running in the film. Well, we are not talking about some jogging in and out of a frame. These were 200 yard dashes! My recent bout with Pneumonia damaged my lungs some I think, so the 200 yard sprints on the film were interesting to say the least. Yet, I am glad I did it. The heat and humidity just took the starch out of me.

When you add the all out sprints, it was definately a workout. What is interesting is that of the 1000 folks there, I was among the fastest. LOL. I was outrunning lots of folks. The first two sprints had me gasping. The third, I was able to recover. It showed me that running is in my future. I need it. A lot. Sprints mainly, but running nevertheless.

06/18/06 Sunday 7:30 PM Training Session 2A (core strength)

I may do some high rep squats tonight. We shall see how I feel. (Lungs were doing fine by the way. No wheezing to start with, and I confess my diet blowed chunks today. All I did was drink milk and eat brown rice. I was out of protein and food.)

  • Neck Work – 35 lbs x 10, 10, 6
  • Calf Raise (standing) – 185 lbs x 22, 23, 22, 25
  • Full Deep Breathing Squats with Pause – 135 lbs x 5, 5, 20 deep deep squats, damn!
  • {
  • Pullovers – 32 lbs x 20
  • Stiff Deads – 135 lbs x 15
  • {
  • Pullovers – 32 lbs x 20

That is all for today. My lungs felt great. I don’t wish to do any more. This was a victory. I have never done 20 reppers for calf to ass squats before. This is a victory. I felt strong. I was winded, naturally. I was not too congested, but I was earlier in the day. I feel spent, but not exausted like I did yesterday at EA.

06/19/06 Monday 7:30 PM Training Session 2B (assistance strength)

Lungs feel good. Some residual congestion from this morning.

  • Seated Military Rehab – 45 lbs x 20, 15, 20; 65 lbs x 5, 6 strict slow pauses
  • Bench Press- 95 lbs x 12 (some shoulder pain), 12 (felt better, so rehab is working-that is a good thing), 10 (I can feel shoullder talking to me, but it is difinately getting stringer)
  • Bent Rows – 115 lbs x 6, 6 (not bad, but running out of steam a bit-diet can fix this I think)
  • Curls – 55 lbs x 15, 11 slow reps (left bicep still tweaking courtesy of Pete Cisco, asshole. Thanks Pete!)

My lungs felt great, but I was dragging my ass a bit. I slept good last night, but I think the high rep squats and stiffs depleted my Glycogen stores. Again, this all diet related I am almost certain. I felt God though. It is amazing that when I approach my workouts prayerfully I feel Gods involvement and my workouts feel so much more fulfilling. I am looking forward to the next workout.

06/22/06 Thursday 4:00 PM Training Session 2A (core strength)

Lungs feel so-so. My frame of mind is bad. My Spirit seems to me to be sad. I feel as though I am not in line with God’s plan for my life and that this job is the wrong step to take. I will go to the orientation. I will “FEEL” it. And make a decision if I have enough information. Anyway, I need to tain some to try to get my head and soul right.

  • Neck – 36 lbs x 15, 10, 10
  • Calf Raise (standing) – 235 lbs x 26, 20, 20, 28
  • Break – Its 4:45 PM. I need to get ready for my 6 PM Orientation for driving. Be back in a while to resume.

06/23/06 Thursday 4:00 PM Cable Session (overall balance strength)

I am still tired, but forced a workout. I wanted to play with cables today, so cables it is, with the addition of some ab and calf work with the barbell

  • Abs, lying leg raise – 12 lbs x 15, 10, 5, 6
  • Abs, crunch – 25 lbs x 18, 20, 20
  • Abs, obliques – 11 lbs x 20 x 3 per side
  • Calf Raise (standing) – 257 lbs x 20, 20, 20
  • 1 leg squats – 6 bands x 15
  • 1 leg stiffs – 6 bands x 15 (good)
  • Archer – 2(d) bands x 15,12
  • Chest Pulls – 3 bands x 15, 15, 15
  • Upright – 5 bands x 7, 5,7
  • Laterals – 1 bands x 15
  • Pressout – 3 bands x 12 (some shoulder pain on my right shoulder…thanks Pete Sisco!), 11
  • Forward Press – 2 bands x 15, 15
  • Tricep Pressout – 2 bands x 12, 12, 10
  • Pusdown – 2 bands x 7, 7
  • Curls – 2 bands x 20

My lungs felt great, but I was still dragging my ass. I am seemingly sleeping well, but waking up in the middle of the night a lot. I had forgotten how challenging and how good the cables were. I did one set on a few exercises as an experiment. I wondered if one set was all I needed. So we shall see.
